Sacrifice cannot feed or manipulate the Creator; the Lord desires thanksgiving, trust, and justice. The heading associates this Psalm with Asaph. Catholics can hear a needed examination of how we approach the Mass: the Eucharist is not a substitute for conversion but the grace-filled worship that should transform our lives. Jesus' criticism of empty religious observance stands within this prophetic tradition. Authentic praise bears fruit in how we live.
