It begins not with arrival at a holy destination but with distress amid deceit and hostility. The worshiper longs for peace while surrounded by those eager for conflict. Catholics can hear in this a picture of Christian pilgrimage: we begin amid the world's divisions and seek the Lord who is peace. Truthful speech is part of the journey. Pilgrimage is not an escape from moral responsibility but a movement toward a life ordered by God's presence.
