Israel's blessing is meant to become a witness to the nations. Catholics can pray it for evangelization, peace, and the unity of peoples in worship of the one God. The Church's universal mission finds an important Old Testament foundation in prayers like this one. The earth's fruitfulness is also a sign of generosity, not a reason to take blessings for granted. The Psalm enlarges the heart from 'bless us' to 'let every people praise you.'
