Its opening appeal became one of the familiar introductory prayers of the Liturgy of the Hours. Catholics therefore encounter it not merely as an ancient emergency prayer but as a daily pattern of dependence on grace. The worshiper asks for rescue and for those seeking God to rejoice in salvation. Few words are needed when the heart knows its need. The Psalm teaches us that calling on God quickly and repeatedly is not weakness but a form of faithful attention.
