Psalm 61 moves from personal need to prayer for the king's enduring life. The royal setting and image of dwelling in God's tent express the desire for stable communion with him. Catholics can hear in the 'higher rock' a spiritual image of Christ, the sure foundation, while recognizing that this is an application of biblical imagery. The Psalm teaches that even a believer who feels distant can pray with confidence because God's mercy reaches farther than human strength.
