David is named in its heading, but the lesson belongs to every conscience. Catholic readers naturally connect its joy in forgiveness with repentance and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, while remembering that the Psalm itself predates the sacrament. Saint Paul cites its blessing to show that forgiveness is a gift of God's grace. The road to happiness begins not with excuses but with truthfulness before the merciful Lord.
