Psalm 56 pictures tears noticed by God and enemies whose threats cannot erase divine fidelity. Its heading links it with David's danger among the Philistines. Catholics can draw comfort from the conviction that suffering is not anonymous before the Lord. The Psalm's confidence does not eliminate the need for sensible protection or human help; it places those choices within faith. Jesus teaches that the Father knows even the small details of creation and invites his disciples not to be ruled by fear.
