Psalm 124 uses images of floodwaters and broken snares to celebrate deliverance. Its Davidic heading reflects a traditional association, while the Psalm stands within the pilgrim songs. Catholics can apply its gratitude to recoveries from hardship, threats, and spiritual dangers. It cautions against claiming that our own ingenuity was the whole explanation for survival. Help comes from the name of the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth.
