Its poetic vision of kindness and truth meeting, justice and peace embracing, has been treasured in Christian Advent prayer. Catholics can hear a preparation for Christ, in whom God's mercy and righteousness are revealed together; this is a liturgical and theological reading rather than a direct New Testament quotation. The Psalm insists that peace is more than the absence of conflict: it requires a restored relationship with God and a faithful response from the people. Grace calls forth renewal.
