It begins by urging parents and elders to teach the coming generation. Catholics can recognize the responsibility of passing on Scripture and faith through family life, catechesis, and example. The Gospel of Matthew applies the Psalm's language about parables to Jesus' teaching. Its conclusion with David as shepherd prepares readers to think about faithful leadership and, in a fuller Christian sense, Christ the Good Shepherd. Remembering the past should change how we live now.
