It warns against making human rulers the ultimate source of hope and celebrates the Lord who feeds the hungry, frees captives, and raises the bowed down. Jesus' ministry fulfills these signs of divine compassion in a new way. Catholics can hear both a call to social concern and a reminder that no political program is a substitute for God's kingdom. Praise becomes credible when believers also care for the vulnerable, the stranger, the widow, and the orphan.
