The tragedy is not that the Lord has been silent but that his people have resisted him. Catholics can hear a summons to receive freedom as a responsibility to worship and obey, rather than as permission to follow every desire. The promise of nourishment also invites a spiritual connection with God's providence and, in Christian reflection, with the Bread of Life. Obedience is the path into freedom, not its opposite.
